How AM.CO.ZA Gets Every CNC Router Perfectly Level Before It Ships

At AM.CO.ZA, quality isn’t just a buzzword—it’s the heart of what they do. With a new batch of CNC routers ready to roll out of their warehouse, the team’s got one mission: make sure every single machine is spot-on before it reaches you. A big part of that is ensuring the CNC bed is perfectly level, so you get dead-accurate cuts every time.

Their secret weapon? A classic granite block and dial indicator setup. It’s old-school mechanical engineering at its finest, trusted for pinpoint precision down to the micron.

Why Granite and Dial Indicators?

That granite block isn’t just any chunk of rock. It’s machined to be a perfect 90° on all sides, making it rock-solid (pun intended) as a reference point. Granite’s tough, doesn’t warp, and stays steady no matter what, which is why it’s the go-to for this job.

Here’s how the AM.CO.ZA crew makes it happen:

Step-by-Step: Getting That Bed Level

1. Setting Up the Granite Block

They start by placing the granite block right where the cutting bit would normally sit on the CNC bed. It’s lined up with the Y-axis of the machine’s gantry to get things started.

2. Nailing the Y-Axis

The Y-axis on these routers is built to be a true 90°, so it’s the gold standard for calibration. They mount a dial indicator on the Y-axis gantry and take super-precise readings in microns.

3. Fine-Tuning Like Pros

With the first readings in, they grab a rubber mallet and gently tap the granite block side to side until the dial indicator is as close to zero as it gets. That’s how they know the block is perfectly square to the Y-axis.

4. Checking the X-Axis

Next, they move the dial indicator to the X-axis and slide the CNC head left to right, watching the readings. If anything’s off, they loosen the gantry bolts and give it a slight nudge with the rubber mallet until the dial’s happy at near-zero.

5. Locking It In

Once the gantry’s square to both axes, they tighten those bolts down good and tight. The bed’s now level, and the machine’s ready to deliver razor-sharp precision straight out of the box.

Precision You Can Trust, Expertise You Can Count On

This kind of care is just one piece of the puzzle at AM.CO.ZA. For over 11 years, they’ve been the name to beat in South Africa for CNC machines and printing gear. Their lineup’s got it all: CNC routers, laser cutters, vinyl cutters, large-format printers, plasma cutters, DTF printers, and more.
