Stone wall art involves the creative use of stones and rocks to construct visually appealing and expressive structures. Artists and craftsmen use various types and sizes of stones to create intricate designs, sculptures, or mosaics embedded within a wall or arranged to form a standalone piece. This form of art often integrates natural elements with human ingenuity, showcasing the beauty of the raw materials. Stone wall art can be found in diverse cultural contexts, ranging from ancient civilizations that used stones for religious or symbolic purposes to contemporary artists who incorporate stones into outdoor installations or interior design. The texture, colour, and shape of the stones contribute to the overall aesthetic, making stone wall art a unique and enduring form of expression that harmonizes with the natural environment.
Creating stone wall art is usually complicated and expensive but did you know you can create the same effect but out of polystyrene foam at a fraction of the price using a CO2 Laser Engraver? In this video, we show you how this is possible.
We start off by sourcing the artwork and placing the art in our template. We then save the file and load it into our AM.CO.ZA CO2 Laser Machine.
We set the power to 20% and speed to 500%, so that we don’t burn right through the foam. The laser was able to engrave the artwork into the foam for the stone art effect without damaging it! The gentle engraving on the foam is possible thanks to the delicate capabilities of the CO2 Laser Engraver.
Next, we sent the foam to an artist for painting to create the impressions of the deep ridges using various shades of paint.
With the second block done, we can see the difference after the paint was added.
