For this project, we will be using a thick piece of foam, in which we cut out the shape of the drill and then mirror this for the lid. To start, we created an outline of the drill on a piece of paper. We then scan the outline into our computer and vectorized the image. We then create a mirror image for the second foam cut out.
At the TruCUT 80W Desktop Laser, we centre the design on the foam and then proceed to cut both outlines out on two pieces of foam.
Once the cut is complete, we created a backing piece of foam to place behind the cut out to create a base for the drill to sit on. We glued the piece in place with silicone. What should we create next, how about the casing around the foam cutouts? Stay tuned for that video!
