Personalised Tumblers: A Creative DIY Project for Kids

Hester Kruger, the proprietor of Pixie Sparkles, a store specializing in a diverse array of children’s toys, sought to craft something unique for her young customers. To fulfil this vision, Pixie Sparkles procured a Tumbler Press from AM.CO.ZA, aims to fashion personalised tumblers for the kids.

Watch the below video to see the process from start to finish:

Step 1: Selecting the Perfect Image

The journey begins with the selection of a captivating image from Pinterest. The chosen picture is then saved to the gallery on the phone, setting the stage for a creative transformation.

Step 2: Preparing the Image for Printing

To ensure a seamless fit on the tumbler, the image is resized, avoiding any awkward misalignments. It’s a delicate process of adjusting the dimensions to guarantee a perfect wrap-around effect.

Step 3: Printing with a Supplementation Printer

Using a specialized supplementation printer, the image is transferred onto special paper designed for tumblers. This step marks the beginning of the tangible transformation of the ordinary tumbler into a unique, personalized item.

Step 4: Cutting and Wrapping

Precision is key as the printed image is carefully cut into sections. The tumbler is disassembled, with plastic lids removed to prevent melting during the next crucial steps. The image is wrapped around the tumbler, ensuring a snug fit.

Step 5: Heat Taping for Perfection

A special heat tape is employed to secure the sections of the paper in place, guaranteeing a flawless final result. This specialized tape is an essential component in the process, available from the same source as the consumables, papers, and inks – the Buythis.co.za website.

Step 6: Setting Up the Heat Press

The heat press is preheated to the optimum temperature, following the instructions provided with the equipment. Attention to detail is emphasized, and safety precautions are highlighted, as the press reaches a high temperature.

Step 7: Pressing the Tumbler

The wrapped tumbler is carefully placed into the preheated press, ensuring a snug fit. The press is adjusted to guarantee a tight seal, and the countdown begins. A short press time ensures the image is flawlessly transferred without any risk of burning.

Step 8: Unveiling the Customized Tumbler

Once the press cycle is complete, the tumbler is gingerly removed using heat-resistant gloves or a suitable substitute. Steam billows out, highlighting the heat of the process. After allowing the tumbler to cool for a few minutes, the heat tape is removed, unveiling the personalized masterpiece.

The DIY journey concludes with the unveiling of a beautifully customized tumbler, a testament to the endless possibilities offered by AM.CO.ZA machinery and accessories. This creative process opens up avenues for crafting unique items for children, teachers, parents, and anyone with a penchant for personalization. The art of turning an ordinary object into a personalized treasure is a delightful endeavour, and the possibilities are indeed limitless in the world of customized tumblers.
