There’s a new large format printer at AM.CO.ZA, and it’s bringing some impressive capabilities to the table.
The latest FastColour large format printer features a PrintExp control system and LED UV inks, giving it the ability to produce some seriously eye-catching results. According to AM.CO.ZA, the printer can produce 2D and 3D effects, as well as finishes that can give prints an embroidery-like appearance.
And you can see the difference as soon as the print comes out.
The colours really stand out, while the different layers can be used to create texture and depth that you simply don’t get from a standard flat print.
The printer can also be configured with dedicated white and varnish inks. This opens up even more possibilities, particularly when printing onto different materials or creating special effects.
The varnish is especially useful when a glossy finish is required. It sits over the printed image like a protective layer, helping to improve the finish while adding durability.
Another feature worth looking at is the dual UV lights positioned on the print heads. These provide an instant cure as the ink is printed, helping the finished image to dry immediately.
But the updates aren’t only about the printing itself.
The new FastColour also includes a number of changes designed to make the machine easier to operate. The take-up roller, for example, has motors on both sides. This provides a more even and controlled take-up of the printed material.
The suction bed has also been upgraded. There is a dedicated control panel on the left-hand side for the suction and bed heater, making these functions easier to access. The suction area itself is wider, as is the material feeding area, improving the way media moves through the printer.
Then there is the main control panel, which has also received some attention.
Alignment adjustments are now easier to make and can be entered using decimal values, allowing for much finer and more accurate adjustments.
There are also three cleaning modes to choose from — Light, Normal and Strong — depending on what the printer needs.
Settings such as the capping position, capping distance and wiping distance can also be adjusted more precisely, giving the operator greater control over the movement of the print head.
Even smaller problems have been considered. If you experience white paper jumping, for example, there is an adjustment available directly through the setup menu.
Put all of this together and you have a large format printer that is not simply about producing prints, but about giving operators more control over the final result.
From layered 3D effects and glossy varnish finishes to improved media handling and more precise controls, the new FastColour is packed with features worth exploring.
